Technology and Cooking

Alright as somebody who works in IT, I am passionate about cool technology. And while there are cooking methods and recipes that have been done the same way for decades without any new technology, I do find that leveraging the technology we have in our world now is helpful in the kitchen. Below are some of my all time favorite kitchen technology/equipment pieces.

1- stand mixer. Mixing dough by hand can be satisfying, but sometimes having a stand mixer to do the work for me is just way easier. I pull my stand mixer out at least 3-4 times a week. It can shred chicken, whisk cream to make whipped cream, create dough, roll out pasta, the options are endless. 100% worth it if you can get yourself one

2- bread proofer. While this isn’t a necessity by any means, and is very much a bougie purchase, it makes proofing bread that much easier with a controlled temperature environment. This allows you to maintain the optimal temperature for bread to rise.

3- smoking/roasting thermometer. Having a wireless one that you can connect to from your phone is so key when it comes to smoking or roasting things for a long period of time in the oven. This lets you monitor where your meat is at without needing to open up the oven/smoker and let out all the heat just to get a temperature.
